The Supreme Court of India has directed Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to vacate the bungalow plot located in Pali Hill, Bandra, Mumbai, which served as the residence of former chairman Anil Manibhai Naik for over two decades. The property was leased from the Kothari family and other co-owners since the 1940s. Although the formal lease expired in 1970, eviction proceedings were initiated in 2001 after the tenancy was terminated. L&T argued that it had acquired a 29.5% share in the property, claiming co-ownership and seeking to halt eviction. However, the Bombay High Court ruled against L&T, stating that their objections were not genuine and that strategic share acquisitions during litigation could not prevent lawful eviction. On March 27, the Supreme Court upheld this decision, ordering the plot to be returned to the co-owners, including Kantilal Kothari, Premchand Kothari, and others. L&T representatives did not comment on the ruling. Anil Manibhai Naik was associated with L&T for 58 years, serving as chairman from December 2003 until September 2023.
