The Haryana State Election Commission (SEC) has confirmed the schedule and seat reservations for the municipal corporation elections set for May 10, 2023. Notably, the mayoral posts in Panchkula and Sonepat will be unreserved, while Ambala's mayoral post is reserved for women from backward classes. This election marks a significant change as voters will directly elect their mayors and presidents using electronic voting machines (EVMs). A total of 8,70,925 voters, comprising 4,53,047 men, 4,17,841 women, and 37 from other categories, will cast their votes across 144 wards and 826 polling stations. The nomination period for candidates runs from April 21 to April 25, and the SEC has established a spending cap of ₹30 lakh for mayoral candidates and ₹7.5 lakh for ward members. The model code of conduct is currently in effect across the relevant districts.
