Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, recently praised the Naandi Foundation for its innovative approach to organic farming in India. The foundation's social enterprise, Urban Farms Co., has successfully assisted nearly 2,000 farmers in transitioning to regenerative agriculture since 2019. This shift has allowed farmers to maintain normal crop yields while significantly reducing their reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, leading to lower farming costs. Mahindra noted that 80-90% of these farmers return each season due to the economic benefits of the initiative. Urban Farms Co. currently cultivates over 50 varieties of vegetables across multiple states, including Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, supplying approximately 10,500 tonnes of produce annually. The initiative aims to create a sustainable food grid across urban India, promoting healthier soil and scientific farming practices. Mahindra commended the leadership of Vikash, Raheel, and Madhur at Urban Farms Co., as well as Naandi Foundation founder Manoj Kumar, for their role in making regenerative agriculture a commercially viable model.
