Poland's government has approved a bill aimed at banning the use of phones and smartwatches by students under 16 in schools. This initiative, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, seeks to tackle the rising concern of addiction to mobile devices and the internet among children. If the bill receives parliamentary and presidential approval, it will take effect at the start of the next school year on September 1. Students will be allowed to bring their devices but must leave them in designated areas during school hours, including breaks. Exceptions will be made for students with special needs who require their devices for health monitoring. The proposed legislation aligns with similar measures adopted in countries like Italy and South Korea, which have reported improvements in student focus and social interactions. Additionally, the Polish government is also pushing for age verification systems on adult websites to protect children from inappropriate content, following similar regulations implemented in the UK and other regions.
