On April 25, 2024, 47 members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered to the Telangana Police in Hyderabad, accompanied by 32 firearms including four AK-47 rifles and a Light Machine Gun. This significant surrender follows appeals from Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and highlights the success of the state's Surrender and Rehabilitation policy. Since March 2024, a total of 818 Maoists have surrendered, with the police recovering 334 weapons over the past two years. Telangana has been declared largely Maoist-free, with only four active cadres remaining, down from 125 in 2023. The police are currently investigating the origins of advanced weaponry, including US and Israeli-made firearms, found in possession of the surrendered Maoists. The Director General of Police, B Shivadhar Reddy, stated that the surrender could signal the end of major surrenders, although a few remaining cadres may still come forward.
