The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact-Check unit has refuted a fake order circulating on social media that falsely claimed an increase in petrol and diesel prices from May 1, 2026. The fabricated document, misattributed to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, alleged that petrol prices would rise by ₹10 per litre and diesel by ₹12.50 per litre. PIB Fact-Check clarified that the Government of India has not issued any such order and advised the public to verify information through official sources. A senior official from the Ministry of Petroleum, Sujata Sharma, stated that there are no plans to increase fuel prices, dismissing speculation following the recent polling in West Bengal. Currently, petrol prices in Delhi stand at ₹94.77 per litre and diesel at ₹87.67 per litre. Retail prices have remained stable since early April 2022, despite fluctuations in global oil prices.
