The UK’s Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) has launched its inaugural nationwide awareness campaign to educate the public on the importance of verifying immigration advisers before seeking assistance with visa and immigration issues. Under the slogan 'Before you trust them, check them,' the IAA encourages individuals to utilize its free online Adviser Register to confirm the credentials of immigration advisers, aiming to protect them from fraud, excessive fees, and misuse of personal information. Many migrants, especially those facing urgent or complex situations, may not realize that immigration advisers must be regulated, which increases their vulnerability to scams and poor advice. Gaon Hart, Immigration Services Commissioner, highlighted the urgency of providing expert advice to those under pressure, stating that the campaign offers a straightforward method for individuals to ensure their advisers are authorized. The campaign will be promoted through social media, digital platforms, and outdoor advertising, with materials available in various languages to effectively reach diverse communities across the UK. Additionally, the IAA regulates immigration advisers and takes action against those operating illegally, reinforcing the importance of professional standards in the immigration advice sector.
