Siemens Healthineers, a global leader in medical technology, intends to divest its stake in the American Oncology Institute (AOI), a cancer care chain headquartered in Hyderabad, India. The sale is estimated to be valued between ₹1,500-2,000 crore (approximately $180-240 million USD). Investment bank Alvarez & Marsal is advising Siemens on the transaction, which has attracted interest from several private equity firms, including KKR-backed Healthcare Global Enterprises (HCG). AOI operates 16 hospitals across India and one facility in Sri Lanka, with a combined capacity of around 500 beds. The potential sale aligns with Siemens' broader strategy to focus on its core business areas, particularly in diagnostic imaging and laboratory diagnostics. The Indian cancer care market is experiencing significant growth, valued at approximately ₹1.25 lakh crore in 2024, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10-12%. This surge in demand for cancer treatment options is driving private investment in specialized facilities across the country.
