Imax has announced a significant expansion in Australia and New Zealand through a new agreement with Hoyts Cinemas to establish ten additional big-screen locations. This deal builds on an earlier agreement for four theaters, bringing the total number of Imax screens in Hoyts' circuit to 14 by 2028. Hoyts Group CEO Damian Keogh emphasized that this expansion will enhance access to Imax's immersive cinema experience, reflecting a commitment to innovation in the industry. The agreement also aligns with the recovery of the Hollywood box office post-pandemic, as audiences increasingly seek premium viewing options. Imax's performance in Australia has been strong, with a record box office revenue of AUS$18.6 million (approximately US$12.1 million) in 2025, driven by popular titles and upcoming films shot with Imax technology. The rollout of new locations is set to occur in key cities like Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth, further solidifying Imax's presence in one of its highest-performing markets.
