Andrew Simpson, a former solicitor and district judge, has been dismissed from his position following allegations of gross misconduct. The Judicial Conduct Investigations Office found that he sent a 'highly sexualised image' to court staff, alongside other inappropriate communications, which included contacting staff through social media and text regarding non-work matters. Although Simpson claimed his actions were intended to be friendly and supportive, the investigation concluded that he abused his position and failed to recognize the power imbalance with his colleagues. The initial panel recommended a reprimand, considering his positive intentions and expressions of remorse. However, this was overruled by the Lady Chief Justice, Baroness Carr, and Lord Chancellor David Lammy, who deemed his behavior as repeated misconduct that caused distress to staff and harmed the reputation of the judiciary. They stated that Simpson's conduct represented a serious failure to meet the expected standards of a judicial office holder.
