Rajasthan is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, with Sri Ganganagar recording the highest temperature of 47°C in the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for extreme heat and warm night conditions expected to persist for the next few days. Cities like Kota and Sirohi reported minimum temperatures of 33.6°C and 22.8°C, respectively. The IMD predicts that temperatures may reach 48°C in western regions by May 27 and 28. However, relief is on the horizon as a Western Disturbance is expected to bring thunderstorms and rainfall starting May 28, which could lower temperatures by 2°C to 3°C. The IMD has advised residents to stay cautious and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions, including dust storms and strong winds reaching speeds of 60-70 km/h during this period.
