Dua Lipa, a Grammy-winning singer, has initiated a lawsuit against South Korean tech giant Samsung, seeking $15 million in damages for allegedly using her image without permission to market its televisions. According to the lawsuit, Lipa's photograph appeared on TV packaging starting last year, and she claims she was neither informed about this campaign nor compensated for the use of her likeness. The legal filing asserts that despite her team's requests to stop using the image, Samsung responded in a 'dismissive and callous' manner. The photograph, taken during the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, is owned by Lipa, who argues that Samsung's actions misled consumers into believing she endorsed the product. The lawsuit also cites social media comments from fans who indicated they were influenced to purchase the televisions because of Lipa's image. Allegations against Samsung include copyright infringement and violations of California’s right of publicity statute, among others. As of now, Samsung has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
