Hezbollah's use of fiber-optic drones has led to injuries among Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops, prompting the Israeli defense establishment to innovate new interception and detection solutions. These drones, which utilize fiber optic cables for data transmission, evade traditional electronic countermeasures and deliver high-definition video feeds. In response, the IDF is transitioning from frequency-based detection to optical and acoustic systems, implementing visual signature management techniques, and enhancing intelligence efforts against drone operators. The Defense Ministry is advancing high-power microwave weapons and laser systems for drone neutralization, alongside a procurement initiative for AI-based smart trigger systems. Additionally, combat units will include designated anti-drone roles, where soldiers will use shotguns to counter fast-moving drones effectively. This comprehensive approach aims to redefine the threat posed by fiber-optic drones, emphasizing the importance of operational discipline and a combination of detection and destruction methods.
