On Thursday, eleven Indian nationals, including ten from Punjab and one from Hyderabad, were deported from Australia, arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The deportation was due to their involvement in criminal activities, breaches of visa conditions, and non-cooperation with authorities. Most deportees were held at various immigration detention centers, including Yongah Hill, Melbourne, and Villawood. Only two of the individuals had valid passports, while the others traveled on emergency certificates issued by Indian diplomatic missions in Australia. The Australian authorities opted for a chartered flight operated by Nauru Airlines, citing the 'non-compliant and disruptive' behavior of several detainees, which made commercial flights unsafe. The deportees included individuals with serious allegations ranging from drug possession to theft and domestic violence. Upon arrival in India, the deportees will receive support for reintegration, although arrangements for some, like Shruti Sharma, are being handled independently.
