In a significant ruling, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Thane district, Maharashtra, awarded ₹86.62 lakh to Kunal Naresh Tandel, a 29-year-old man who suffered severe injuries and 90% functional disability in a road accident in August 2021. The tribunal, led by Member R V Mohite, determined that the truck owner and Iffco-Tokio General Insurance Company Ltd are jointly liable for the compensation, which includes ₹29.16 lakh for loss of income, ₹11.66 lakh for future prospects, and ₹10 lakh for future medical expenses. Additionally, Tandel was awarded ₹3 lakh for loss of marriage prospects and ₹5 lakh for cosmetic disfigurement. The tribunal noted that Tandel's injuries, which included crushing damage to his abdomen and legs, would likely lead to future complications, impacting his personal and professional life. The ruling, made on April 9, mandates that ₹20 lakh be placed in a fixed deposit, with the remainder transferred to Tandel's bank account.
