This initiative aligns with guidelines from the UK's Equality and Human Rights Commission and aims to enhance transparency regarding the representation of gender in the Parliament. The functionality was previously removed after the 2026 Holyrood election as part of a review process. The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) emphasizes the importance of handling diversity information with care and accuracy. The survey, sent by Lorna Hunter, the parliament's director of people, communications, and inclusion, allows MSPs to confirm their gender identity, including options for non-binary and trans identities. Members can opt out of having their information published, which would then be marked as 'undisclosed'. The SPCB believes that making this data available will help constituents understand the makeup of their representatives and facilitate better engagement.
