During an episode of The Tangle podcast, Mulroney, who played Everett Stone, indicated that much of the original cast is expected to reprise their roles, including Luke Wilson and Rachel McAdams. The project carries a bittersweet tone as it follows the recent passing of Diane Keaton, who portrayed the matriarch Sybil Stone. Mulroney noted that director Thomas Bezucha revisited the sequel idea after Keaton's death in October 2025, stating that he quickly wrote a brilliant script that many original actors have agreed to join. Sarah Jessica Parker also expressed her enthusiasm for the project, albeit with a sense of loss, highlighting the emotional complexity of returning to the story without Keaton.
