The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet has approved a procurement policy for maize under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the Kharif marketing season 2025-26, setting the MSP at ₹2,400 per quintal. The procurement will occur from June 15 to July 31 across 24 districts, including Firozabad, Agra, and Kanpur Nagar, with a target of procuring 25,000 metric tonnes of maize. To facilitate this, the government will establish 150 procurement centres in high maize production areas. Farmers will need to present a computerized revenue record (Khatauni), a photo identity proof, and an Aadhaar card at these centres. The government has also assured that payments will be made directly to farmers' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts within 48 hours through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal. This initiative aims to ensure fair prices for maize growers and enhance the procurement mechanism for coarse grains in the state.
