In recent years, various groups associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have celebrated historical figures like Maharaja Suheldev from Uttar Pradesh and Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar from Maharashtra for their resistance against colonial and imperial powers. This trend raises questions about its socio-political relevance in contemporary India. Many communities, including the Nairs and Ezhavas in Kerala, Marathas in Maharashtra, and Jats in North India, have claimed historical roles as Kshatriyas, asserting their identities as elite landholders and militia in previous regimes. These assertions are increasingly voiced through traditional and social media, indicating a growing movement to reclaim and celebrate their historical significance. The phenomenon of Kshatriyaisation thus serves as a lens to understand the current socio-political landscape in India, where historical narratives are intertwined with identity politics.
