As early counting trends indicate that the United Democratic Front (UDF) has crossed the majority mark in the Kerala Assembly elections, Shashi Tharoor (a prominent Congress leader) expressed optimism about the results. He highlighted that voters are seeking change after a decade of what he described as poor governance. Tharoor stated that the Congress party would take its time to decide on leadership, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expected to appoint a representative to consult with newly elected MLAs. The UDF is currently leading in 82 seats, with the Congress party itself leading in 50 seats and its ally, the Muslim League, ahead in 17 seats. In contrast, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is leading in 51 seats. Tharoor noted that while the trends are promising, it is still early in the counting process, which began with postal ballots followed by Electronic Voting Machine votes.
