The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has raised alarms regarding increasing cybersecurity threats linked to advanced AI models, particularly following concerns over Anthropic's AI model, Mythos. In its advisory titled 'Defending Against Frontier AI Driven Cyber Risks' issued on April 26, CERT-In emphasizes that these AI systems can autonomously discover vulnerabilities, analyze code, and orchestrate multi-stage attacks, potentially leading to severe consequences such as data breaches and financial fraud. Organizations are encouraged to enhance their cybersecurity measures, including continuous monitoring, vulnerability disclosures, and implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all internet-facing assets. CERT-In advises treating newly disclosed vulnerabilities as immediate threats and recommends rapid application of critical patches. For micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cost-effective strategies such as regular security updates and employee training are suggested. Individual users are also urged to adopt safe practices to protect their personal data from AI-driven attacks, including avoiding unverified downloads and using strong passwords.
