In light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Russia has expressed its unwavering support for India's presidency of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) group. This comes as India faces challenges in fostering consensus among BRICS members, particularly between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Senior Russian government sources indicated that Russia shares India's priorities to advance the BRICS agenda across policy, security, economy, and cultural ties. Despite recent efforts by India to convene a dialogue among involved parties, a joint statement could not be achieved. Nevertheless, these discussions were deemed a valuable platform for dialogue. Looking ahead, the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for May 14-15 will continue to explore the West Asia issue. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, will visit New Delhi for the BRICS meeting and is expected to meet with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss both the BRICS agenda and bilateral relations.
