The Chellanam–Kochi Janakeeya Vedhi has formally requested that the second phase of the sea wall construction in Chellanam panchayat be extended to Beach Road near Fort Kochi. V.T. Sebastian, the general convener of the Vedhi, emphasized the need to maintain the same design and quality of tetrapods used in the first phase of the project, which successfully covered 7.3 km at a cost of ₹347 crore. The second phase, which is expected to cover 6.1 km from Puthenthode to Manassery, has an estimated cost of ₹404 crore. Sebastian noted that if the second phase is executed similarly to the first, it could be completed for ₹306 crore, allowing for the remaining funds to extend the wall to Beach Road. By eliminating the chemical additives that increase costs, approximately ₹98 crore could be saved, facilitating this extension.
