The Maharashtra government has decided to challenge a ruling from the Bombay High Court that ordered the transfer of about 254.88 acres of land in Mira-Bhayander, located in Thane district, to two builders, The Estate Investment and Mira Real Estate Developers. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that the government will file a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court to contest the April 30 verdict. He stated that the land is owned by the state and that the government will present a strong case to retain possession. The controversy stems from alleged unauthorized changes in the land's revenue records dating back to 1948, which the government claims were made without proper approval. The High Court's decision was unexpected, as previous rulings had favored the state, including a 2002 order by the Thane district collector that vested the land with the government. The government argues that the High Court's ruling could allow a private entity to maintain claims over government land, which they are determined to contest.
