Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the operation, stating that Odeh was 'sent to meet his partners in the depths of hell.' The IDF and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) confirmed that the operation involved targeting Odeh's hideouts in Gaza City, following months of intelligence monitoring. Odeh had recently taken over leadership of Hamas' intelligence unit and was involved in various attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
