A powerful magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast on Monday, leading to tsunami warnings and urgent evacuation orders. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that waves could reach up to 3 meters (approximately 9.84 feet). The quake, originating in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of about 10 km, prompted Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to form an emergency response task force. Residents in vulnerable coastal areas, particularly in Iwate, Aomori, and Hokkaido, were advised to evacuate to higher ground immediately.
