In a tragic incident in Ghurkot village, Janjgir-Champa district, Chhattisgarh, a 15-year-old boy named Akhilesh Dhivar died after consuming contaminated watermelon. The incident occurred on Sunday evening when Akhilesh and three other children ate cut watermelon that had been prepared earlier that day. Shortly after consumption, Akhilesh experienced severe symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and breathing difficulties. His condition worsened, and he was declared dead upon arrival at the district hospital. The other three children, aged between 4 and 13, were also hospitalized with similar symptoms. District hospital civil surgeon Dr. S Kujur indicated that the watermelon may have been contaminated, as it was cut several hours prior to consumption. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, and samples have been preserved for forensic examination. Another watermelon from the house has been sent for laboratory testing by the food safety department to determine the cause of the incident.
