On Sunday, a delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab, led by state president Sunil Jakhar, met with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to demand the removal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The BJP claims that Mann committed serious 'constitutional misconduct' during a recent assembly session, alleging that he appeared in an 'inebriated state'. Jakhar stated that the party believes Mann has lost the moral authority to continue as chief minister and urged the governor to prompt the ruling party to select a new leader. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has strongly refuted these allegations, with Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema labeling them as a politically motivated attempt to defame Mann. Jakhar also expressed concerns about the independence of state officials, requesting the governor to ensure they operate free from pressure. The BJP delegation included notable figures such as Ashwani Sharma, Vijay Sampla, and Manpreet Singh Badal.
