The Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport project in Purandar, Maharashtra, has taken a significant step forward as Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi announced the final compensation rates for land acquisition affecting seven villages. The base compensation has been set at ₹1.61 crore (approximately $195,000 USD) per acre. However, Dudi noted that this is just the starting point; landowners with additional assets such as wells, trees, or structures can expect higher payouts, averaging around ₹2 crore (approximately $240,000 USD) per acre. The total area being acquired is 1,216.75 hectares, with the breakdown across villages including Khanwadi, Kumbarwalan, and Paragaon. As of May 3, 244 consent letters have been received from landowners, covering 174.64 hectares. Dudi emphasized the importance of submitting consent letters to ensure access to benefits under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy 2019, warning that failure to do so could lead to a compulsory acquisition process without the associated benefits.
