Enoch Cree Nation, located west of Edmonton, Alberta, is nearing the completion of two major health projects aimed at enhancing local healthcare access. A new medical facility will include a pharmacy and a chartered surgical clinic featuring six operating rooms—three for publicly-funded surgeries and three for private procedures. Lorraine Oleski, executive director of River Cree Weiss Surgical Care+, emphasized that the facility is designed to complement the public healthcare system rather than detract from it. Additionally, the facility will incorporate a cultural room and ensure that all staff receive training in cultural sensitivity. Meanwhile, an addictions recovery center is also nearing completion, which will offer 75 beds, including accommodations for both men and women, and will focus on culturally relevant recovery programs. Tyler Morin, senior manager of the apiwikamik Wellness Branch, noted the importance of aligning recovery programming with Indigenous cultural practices.
