On Wednesday, a protest by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at Kuvempu University in Shankaraghatta, Karnataka, turned violent, resulting in police booking over 15 students. The protest arose from grievances regarding the university's digital evaluation system, which students claimed was unscientific and led to many failing their exams. They also highlighted delays in the announcement of results for first, third, and fifth semesters, which were conducted five months ago, and problems with mark sheet distribution over the past three years. During the protest, demonstrators vandalised campus property, stormed the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharath Ananthamurthy's office, and heckled him. Ananthamurthy acknowledged the issues but stated that resolving them would take time, suggesting that there might be vested interests behind the unrest. In a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Basavaraj A P, general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and in-charge of NSUI, criticized the authorities for arresting students instead of addressing their concerns and called for the withdrawal of all cases against them.
