Delhi, India, is currently enjoying a respite from the intense heat, thanks to light rain and thunderstorms that have swept through the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for rainfall in central and northwest Delhi and an orange alert for parts of the southwest and southern regions. Rainfall measurements included 6mm in Pitampura, 1mm in Pushp Vihar, and 8mm in Gurugram. The IMD predicts light rainfall from May 3 to May 5, with another western disturbance expected on May 8. Temperatures, which peaked at 38.6°C on Saturday, are forecasted to drop to between 35-37°C by Monday, alleviating concerns of a heatwave. Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet Weather, noted that the ongoing weather patterns are attributed to pre-monsoon activities, which are expected to continue until early June. The minimum temperature is also projected to decrease to around 21-23°C by May 6, significantly below the normal range for this time of year. Additionally, the air quality index in Delhi is currently at 144, categorized as moderate, and is expected to remain in the moderate to poor range for the next six days.
