Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold this position in the state. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Brigade Parade Ground and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Adhikari was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, with senior party leader Dilip Ghosh proposing his name due to his significant role in the BJP's growth in West Bengal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah remarked on the BJP's journey in the state, asserting that their victory is crucial for national security by addressing issues like infiltration and cow smuggling. Adhikari outlined his government's priorities, promising to investigate corruption and crimes against women during the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration. He emphasized the need for cooperation between the state and central governments to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Bengal.
