On May 20, 2026, a mass clean-up drive was held at the MSS Wakf Board College campus in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to promote cleanliness and proper waste management. The event was inaugurated by Madurai Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar and Madurai North MLA A. Kallanai, attracting over 200 participants including government officials, Corporation staff, sanitary workers, students, and volunteers. The District Collector highlighted the critical role of public cooperation in achieving the goal of a cleaner city. He urged residents to refrain from dumping garbage in public areas and instead utilize designated bins and waste collection vehicles for proper disposal. To further enhance cleanliness, the district plans to implement awareness programs, install additional garbage bins, and deploy surveillance cameras to deter littering in public spaces. The Collector announced that similar clean-up initiatives would be organized in tourist attractions, educational institutions, and other significant public areas throughout Madurai district, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a clean environment for all residents and visitors.
