In Himachal Pradesh, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shrikant Baldi, the former chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), following a defamation complaint by Sanjay Gupta, a retired chief secretary. Gupta alleges that Baldi made false and defamatory statements about him, claiming he issued illegal orders and misused his authority in connection with a housing project in Solan district. The FIR, filed on May 30, cites sections 248 (false charge with intent to injure), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 356(2) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Gupta, who has taken up a new role as the chairman of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission, asserts that Baldi's accusations are baseless and intended to damage his reputation. He emphasized the need for a prompt investigation to uphold the integrity of public officials and prevent malicious targeting through media trials. Additionally, two separate FIRs have been lodged against other individuals related to Gupta's complaints.
