On Saturday, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued several weather alerts, including a red level tornado warning for parts of southeast Saskatchewan, specifically the R.M. of Browning and R.M. of Brock. The warning, which indicated potential damaging winds reaching 110 km/h and hail sizes between golf ball and tennis ball, was prompted by a severe thunderstorm moving eastward at 25 km/h. Residents were advised to seek shelter indoors, particularly in rooms on the lowest floor, and to be alert for signs of a tornado such as funnel clouds or swirling debris. The tornado warnings were lifted shortly after 8:10 p.m., but a tornado watch remains in effect for areas including Weyburn, Estevan, and surrounding communities, where conditions are still favorable for severe thunderstorms. Under the watch, strong winds up to 100 km/h, large hail, and significant rainfall are possible as thunderstorms develop along a warm front throughout the day. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through ECCC’s website for updates on current weather alerts.
