Employee unions in India have been granted an extension until May 31, 2026, to submit their demands for the eighth Central Pay Commission (CPC). M Raghavaiah, the leader of the Staff side at the National Council (Staff Side) Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM), announced that unions are advocating for a significant increase in the minimum pay from approximately ₹30,000 (around $360 USD) to ₹69,000 (around $830 USD) per month, effective from January 1, 2026. The current pay band for central government employees is between ₹18,000 and ₹56,900. The demands also include a fitment formula of 3.833 for existing employees and pensioners.
