The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced a significant reassignment of technical staff to address an acute manpower shortage as the paddy transplantation season approaches. In an internal directive, PSPCL has instructed all chief engineers and operational heads to return technical employees currently engaged in clerical roles to their original field duties. This decision is critical for maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply during the high-demand agricultural period. With power demand surging due to rising temperatures and operational challenges, PSPCL is under pressure to ensure effective field operations. Reports indicate that a substantial number of technical staff have been diverted to non-technical roles, leaving field units understaffed. Chief engineer Jagdev Singh Hans highlighted the importance of this reassignment, stating that the workload on field teams significantly increases during the summer and paddy season. The management has also warned against negligence in maintaining power supply, stressing the need for compliance reports to monitor field readiness closely.
