Bill Dabney, a local homeowner, first noticed unusual droppings on the roof of his guesthouse earlier this month. Upon investigating, he came face-to-face with a mountain lion lounging just ten yards away in his backyard on May 3, 2023. Security footage captured the animal, which appeared somewhat scrawny and in a poised position, ready to spring. Following this encounter, Dabney expressed concern and began carefully checking his surroundings whenever he steps outside. The sighting is particularly alarming as it follows another reported mountain lion sighting nearby. Kevin McManus from the Pasadena Humane Society emphasized that such sightings are extremely rare, attributing the recent increase in wildlife encounters to environmental changes, including the devastating Eaton Fire, which has impacted the cougars' natural habitat. Experts advise residents to be cautious and to make themselves appear larger if they encounter a mountain lion, as the animal may be searching for food, water, and shelter in urban areas.
