On Saturday, Chandigarh experienced its coldest May day in 57 years, with a maximum temperature recorded at 25.3°C, which is 14.8 degrees below the seasonal average. This unusual weather pattern made Chandigarh cooler than popular hill stations like Manali and Dharamshala, which recorded temperatures of 25.6°C and 28°C, respectively. The city experienced 24.6 mm of rain throughout the day, including brief hail around 8:37 am and gusty winds reaching 80 km/h. This temperature drop was a significant decline from 35.6°C the previous day. The minimum temperature also saw a sharp decline, dropping to 18°C, which is 7.7 degrees below normal. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed this unusual weather to an active western disturbance, which has been affecting the region since Thursday. Despite the rain, officials clarified that these were not pre-monsoon showers, as the monsoon has not yet reached mainland India. Looking ahead, cloudy conditions are expected, but no rain is forecasted for Sunday.
