During a board meeting on Saturday, Dearborn Public Schools in Michigan selected three finalists for the superintendent position: Thomas Ahart, the former superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools in Iowa; Mike Esseily, the Executive Director of Special Populations at Dearborn Public Schools; and Moussa Hamka, the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Grosse Pointe Public Schools. Notably, either Esseily or Hamka could become the first permanent Arab American to lead the district, following interim Superintendent Lamis Srour, who has opted not to pursue the permanent role. The finalists are scheduled to visit the district on Wednesday, where they will tour schools and meet with key stakeholders. A formal meet and greet for parents and residents will take place from 7:20 to 8:45 p.m. at the Administrative Service Center. The candidates will then interview with the school board on Thursday at 6 p.m., with the interviews broadcast live on the district’s YouTube Channel. A special meeting is set for May 4, 2023, to announce the new superintendent, following six initial interviews conducted from April 14 to 16, which are also available for public viewing on the district's YouTube Channel.
