Pravesh Wahi, a councillor from Rohini East representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been elected as the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with 156 votes. Monika Pant, also from the BJP, was elected as Deputy Mayor with the same number of votes. The election saw the participation of an electoral college consisting of 273 members, including 249 councillors and 14 MLAs nominated by the Delhi assembly. The winning threshold was 137 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose to abstain from the election, with Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj stating that this strategy would allow the BJP to take full ownership of the civic body and provide the AAP with grounds to critique the ruling party's governance. The AAP had held the mayoral position since November 2024. Upon his election, Wahi expressed his commitment to cleaning and developing Delhi, thanking Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the BJP leadership. The MCD was reconstituted as a unified body on May 22, 2022, following the merger of the East, North, and South Delhi Municipal Corporations.
