The MV Hondius cruise ship, currently anchored off Praia, Cape Verde, is at the center of a hantavirus outbreak that has resulted in three fatalities among its passengers. Two seriously ill crew members will be evacuated to the Netherlands for urgent medical care, while the ship prepares to sail to Spain's Canary Islands for further evaluation of the remaining crew and passengers. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that two hantavirus cases have been confirmed, with five additional suspected cases. The outbreak has raised concerns about potential human-to-human transmission, although the exact source of the virus remains under investigation. The cruise, which began in Ushuaia, Argentina, on April 1, has 88 passengers and 59 crew members from 23 different nationalities. Authorities are tracing contacts of those infected, particularly those on a flight taken by a deceased passenger.
