India and Jamaica have committed to strengthening their bilateral relationship through enhanced trade and cooperation in skilled mobility, particularly in healthcare and education. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the agreements during a joint press conference with Jamaican Foreign Minister Kamina J. Smith in Kingston. The discussions covered various areas, including digital transformation and cultural exchange, with a focus on ensuring tangible outcomes from the signed agreements. Jaishankar highlighted Jamaica's role as a logistics hub for trade and investment in the Caribbean, and both nations agreed to explore further collaboration in sectors such as agriculture and infrastructure. India is also providing humanitarian assistance to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, including medical support and relief materials. Additionally, both countries emphasized their commitment to multilateral cooperation and counter-terrorism, with India expressing gratitude for Jamaica's support for its UN Security Council candidacy for 2028-29. The Indian diaspora in Jamaica, comprising around 70,000 individuals, continues to play a vital role in cultural exchange between the two nations.
