The Punjab government is intensifying its efforts to enroll beneficiaries in the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana, a cash transfer initiative aimed at providing financial support to women. Launched on April 14, the scheme has already seen registrations from over 8.5 lakh women across 29 assembly constituencies. By the end of the month, the government plans to extend the registration process to all 117 constituencies in Punjab. The scheme offers ₹1,000 per month to eligible women and ₹1,500 for those from Scheduled Castes, with the first payments expected to start from July 1. Local women volunteers, known as 'Mahila Satkar Sakhis', are being employed to assist applicants in completing their documentation, which includes linking Aadhaar numbers and updating bank account details. The government has earmarked ₹9,300 crore for this initiative despite facing challenges such as documentation mismatches and queues at government offices for caste certificates. The eligibility criteria exclude certain groups, including government employees and individuals who paid income tax last year, but there is no limit on the number of eligible women from a single family.
