As votes are counted today for the Assam assembly elections, the outcome will reveal whether the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) can secure a third consecutive term or if the Congress-led opposition can leverage anti-incumbency sentiments. The elections, held on April 9, saw a voter turnout of 85.96% from over 2.50 crore registered voters across 126 constituencies. Among the 722 candidates contesting, 59 are women. High-profile candidates include Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress state chief Gaurav Gogoi. Exit polls indicate a strong performance for the NDA, forecasting between 88-100 seats, while Congress and its allies are projected to win 24-36 seats. The ruling NDA currently holds 64 seats, while the opposition has 26. The results will also impact other state elections, including West Bengal and Kerala, where various parties vie for power.
