In response to persistent complaints from legislators regarding the lack of respect from bureaucrats, the Uttar Pradesh government has mandated a new protocol for welcoming Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Chief Secretary S P Goyal issued a government order requiring all senior officials, including additional chief secretaries and district magistrates, to stand up when MPs and MLAs visit government offices. This directive aims to ensure that legislators receive the attention and respect they deserve. The issue gained prominence after state minister Asim Arun walked out of an event in Kannauj due to the district magistrate's absence, prompting him to seek an explanation. The new order also stipulates that officials must offer water to the visiting legislators immediately upon their arrival, reinforcing the importance of proper protocol in governmental interactions.
