These outages have been attributed to generation setbacks at local power plants, including a fault at the Talwandi Sabo power plant. The situation is exacerbated in rural areas, where the distribution network is less robust, leading to longer outages compared to urban regions. According to officials, the loss of large generation units creates a significant imbalance between electricity demand and supply, particularly during the summer when consumption peaks. Data indicates that suburban and rural feeders have faced cumulative outages exceeding 20,000 minutes recently. Chief engineer Jagdev Singh Hans stated that efforts are being made to restore power, with some units expected to come back online soon, but full relief may not be possible in the short term. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of a fixed schedule for power cuts, complicating daily life during the hot weather.
