The Congress party has expressed outrage over the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections, alleging manipulation by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following protests outside the Election Commission (EC) office in New Delhi, the EC agreed to meet with a Congress delegation to address the issue. Madhya Pradesh's Deputy Chief Election Officer, Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava, noted that the meeting was delayed due to the Chief Electoral Officer's illness. Congress leaders, including Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, are demanding that the invalidated nomination form be reinstated. In contrast, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav supported the rejection, claiming that Natarajan concealed a criminal record, which he deemed a serious offense. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal condemned the rejection as a blatant attack on democracy, vowing to contest the decision both legally and politically. The Rajya Sabha biennial elections are set for June 18.
