Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, BL Verma, announced that the newly constructed domestic airport in Ambala Cantonment will soon commence operations, marking it as the 165th operational airport in India. Verma highlighted that prior to the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, there were only 74 operational airports in the country, showcasing significant growth in air travel infrastructure. The airport, developed over approximately 20 acres, is strategically important and will serve passengers from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. During an inspection of the airport, Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij noted that the runway is equipped with advanced facilities for safe operations in all weather conditions. Several airlines have applied to operate flights from the new airport, and the Union Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed that there are no technical obstacles to starting services. The inauguration of the airport is anticipated to coincide with the unveiling of a significant war memorial in the area, honoring the martyrs of the First War of Independence.
